Ronco  Atlas

nature

The forest abounds in the Vanoi valley – on a regional level, the municipality has one of the greatest timber-outputs. Despite its wild appearance, the landscape has been shaped by human action and can be thus considered a cultural heritage.

This chapter deals with the visible and invisible stages in the evolution of the landscape. They range from slow, long-term mineral sedimentations to the changing light at different times of day.

Tree trunks were once floated as far as Venice while the cleared areas became terraced pastures. Today, the forest has reconquered these spaces and surrounds the settlements.

Considering Ronco from a certain distance, one notices the fragile balance between the built fabric and the surrounding vegetation which manifests itself as a sharp border between the two. One feels the sublime of nature.
