Ronco  Atlas

Sacred

In the past, the sacred corresponded to an indispensable need of the people living in the Vanoi as they were surrounded by the dangers of nature. The population had a strong connection to the spiritual, which compensated the hard and uncertain material life. Multiple signs of devotion are scattered around the settlements and in the landscape.

The religious centre of Ronco is the church located in the homonymous fraction. Its present configuration dates back to the 18th century. The building has recently been renovated and upgraded with a new heating installation. Nevertheless, mass is celebrated in the smaller church of Ronco Gasperi during the winter months because it is more easily heated.

Next to the chiesa, one finds the cemetery which is steadily growing. Traditionally, it was usual to have a last picture taken of deceased on their deathbed. There are several such portraits in the photographic archive of the Parco Paneveggio Pale di San Martino.

Numerous shrines are situated along the streets and paths, either as small separate buildings or in alcoves.
