Project Caribbean

When the end of the 3rd semester is approaching, the thoughts of two students of the department of Earth Sciences will be roaming far away. We'll long for the windward islands. We'll dream of rum, reggae and rainforests; of sun, sand and sweet exotic fruits. Of tropic woods, of sailing, flying and diving. The second Project, "Caribbean 2003" is in planning: a five-week cruise through the Caribbean Sea with stopovers on five islands.

The destinations:

- Guadeloupe
The butterfly island as a french oversea department with the southern flair and the volcano national park of La Soufrière.

- Antigua
One day in the famous, hurriance-proof harbour of English Harbour.

- Trinidad & Tobago
Spanish influence under British government with a lot of energy, especially druing the Carnival Season.

- St. Lucia
The two Pitons as a landmark on the small isle with the big history that became independent in 1979. We'll find out what's going on in the capital Castries and roam the 616 km^2 of land available in the rougher sea of the lesser Antilles in the West Indies.

- Martinique
Last but not least we go French and volanic again. Deployment to the glowing history of the old capital St. Pierre and Mont Pelée Volcano. If we haven't succeeded in finding a Obsidian volanic glass yet, we'll try again here as the odds are getting better.
