Gerald Kress (Dr.-Ing., M. Sc.)

I was born on Oct. 8, 1954 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld and studied mechanics at the TU Braunschweig and the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI), U.S.A., where I graduated as M.Sc. in Mechanics on June 10, 1983.

My career includes positions as junior scientist at the DLR at Braunschweig and structural analyst at DORNIER SYSTEM GMBH, Friedrichshafen. Since 1988 I am a senior scientist at ETHZ.

My research interests cover mechanical modeling, stress analysis and failure prediction of parts made from composite materials, and computer aided structural and design optimization methods.

I am teaching the courses "Structural Analysis with FEM", "Structural Optimization", "Mechanics of Composite Materials", "FEM Programs" (Engineering Tools), and together with E. Mazza “Methoden der Strukturanalyse”.
