I am Senior Assistant and Lecturer (Oberassistent and Dozent) in the Chair of Geotechnical Engineering and I am also affiliated with the
Chair of Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering of the ETH Zurich
.
I am interested in methods of increasing and evaluating the resistance of structures to earthquakes and dynamic loadings.
I focus on earthquake response modification techniques (such as rocking and base isolation), earthquake response of equipment, strong motion
analysis, soil-structure interaction, and non-linear modelling and analysis
of structures under dynamic loading.
I studied in NTU Athens (Diploma in Civil Engineering, 2004), in UC Berkeley (MSc in Structural Engineering, 2006) and in University of Patras (PhD in Earthquake Engineering, 2010).
I am a member of SGEB and ELTAM.
My name in Greek is spelled "Μιχάλης Βασιλείου".
You can find my work in google scholar .

- (13/12/2018) The ETH Zurich appointed or promoted 12 Professors. One of them is me: I was appointed as Assistant Professor of Seismic Design and Analysis.
- (27/07/2018) I was awarded an ERC Starting Grant to study masonry structures. That's the second one ever given in Earthquake Engineering and the first one in Masonry structures. Interestingly, I am the 3rd one from my class (NTUA, CivEng 2004) to get a Starting Grant (after Eleni Chatzi and Yannis Stefanou).
