Here's how you can disable the red LED in the ThinkPad logo:

Prerequisites

You need a kernel compiled with CONFIG_THINKPAD_ACPI_UNSAFE_LEDS=y and the boot parameter ec_sys.write_support=1 set.

Manual

Run: echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/tpacpi::lid_logo_dot/brightness

systemd service

This systemd-service disables the red power LED on the lid.
Create a service file at: /etc/systemd/system/thinkpad-disable-led.service with the following content:

[Unit]
Description=Disables the red logo LED at startup
After=basic.target suspend.target

[Service]
Type=exec
ExecStart=sh -c "echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/tpacpi::lid_logo_dot/brightness "

[Install]
WantedBy=basic.target suspend.target
  • enable it at startup sudo systemctl enable thinkpad-disable-led.service
  • to start immediately: sudo systemctl start thinkpad-disable-led.service
  • to enable the LEDs again after the next reboot: sudo systemctl disable thinkpad-disable-led.service
    • And to enable it immediately: echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/tpacpi::lid_logo_dot/brightness
