Alexandra Tsybizova is an experimental physical organic chemist, specializing in mechanistic research as well as detection and characterization of reactive intermediates. Dr. Tsybizova is a senior scientist in the group of Prof. Dr. Peter Chen at the Laboratorium für Organische Chemie at the ETH Zürich. She did her PhD at the Charles University, Prague, under the supervision of Prof. Jana Roithova.

In her PhD and postdoctoral research experience, Dr. Tsybizova has investigated the thermochemical and spectroscopic properties of reactive intermediates in organometallic reactions. In this time, her work has encompassed synthesis, computation, and spectroscopy. She has conducted gas-phase mechanistic research, employed novel instrumentation, and devised benchmark experiments for quantum chemistry. This interdisciplinary background allows her to look at chemical reactions from a variety of different perspectives. Dr. Tsybizova strongly believes that despite tremendous progress in this research area, our conceptual understanding of reaction mechanisms is still lacking, therefore she uses her research to gain a more comprehensive understanding of chemical reactivity and selectivity.
